Welcome back and thank you for either returning or reading for the first time. Today a shorter blog but about something very specific that should be of use to anyone looking to utilise recruiters. A point of contention from many a candidate has been that recruiters do not call them back. Below I have listed 5 reasons as to why which should help you moving forward:
1.
A normal contingent recruiter does not get paid until they place a candidate in a position. So what does this mean for you? A recruiter MUST focus primarily on candidates they feel they can place and will make money from. If you apply for a position and do not get a reply then it is likely the recruiter does not see a fit, whether correct or not.
2.
A recruiter will likely get a high number of applicants per day and it would be nigh on impossible for them to get back to every candidate. If they did they would have no time to speak to candidates they can place or for viable future prospects. I am sure most recruiters would hope to be able to reply to every job advert but it is simply not possible.
3.
A recruiter is in the same position as you often. Let us consider that your CV has been sent to a recruiter. It is in the recruiter’s best interests to get feedback from the client quickly to, therefore, speed up the process. If you call a recruiter and they keep saying there is no feedback then there is only so much they can do to speed it up. If the feedback is positive a recruiter will always call you straight away. If negative it may not be as quick however, a good recruiter will relay this information back. I would always recommend using a recruiter who gives back both positive and negative feedback.
4.
They are just simply busy. As is the case in all jobs, certain times can get very busy. Be patient and understand when a recruiter says they will get back to you as quickly as possible they will try. This is especially the case if you leave a message in the office and are told they are busy. Calling back every 5 minutes until they pick up is not going to help. As with above, if they think you are a viable option for a role they will call back quickly.
5.
Finally, it could be a case of looking in the mirror. If you are rude, unbecoming, short embellished your skills or worst of all don’t listen, it is very likely a recruiter will not want to work with you. Relationships are key, so make sure you nurture that relationship with your recruiter and just, in general, BE GOOD TO PEOPLE!
I completely understand that although the above focuses on good recruiters and that there will be many who do not call back just simply because they don’t. As always, my advice is to align yourself with recruiters who you trust and who you have heard good things about.
